Ecosophia: A New Approach to Applied Philosophy
Keywords:
Ecosophia, ecology, deep ecology, ethicsAbstract
The study of ethics is one of the major philosophical fields, which has raised questions about the relationship of humans with other people. However, this relationship is not limited to their own species but extends to the natural environment in which they live. Technology has mediated this relationship, resulting in serious damage, which has drawn philosophers’ attention to the need to adhere to specific ethical principles in dealing with the environment, thus establishing environmental ethics or ecosophia as an ethical philosophical field that, through its critical mechanisms and rational concepts, attempts to provide a value-based ethical vision for ecological problems. The importance of this research lies in its aim to provide non-traditional approaches to ecological problems, seeking to create a radical change in understanding our existence according to a new perception and a vision that redefines our understanding of nature, going beyond the cognitive and existential basis of modernity.
Hence, we ask: How can a new ethics governing the human relationship with nature be established? Or more clearly: How can we move from classical ethics to contemporary ethics? And how can we understand the essence of nature and achieve true environmental awareness at the individual and social levels?
