The widespread use of social media has significantly influenced the psychological experiences of young adults, particularly in relation to self-esteem and body image. Social networking platforms promote constant exposure to idealized images, peer comparison, and feedback mechanisms such as likes and comments, which can shape individuals’ self-perceptions. the impact of social media use on self-esteem and body image among young adults. patterns of social media engagement, including frequency of use, type of content consumed, and comparison-oriented behaviors. It analyzes how these factors are associated with levels of self-esteem and body satisfaction. Drawing on psychological theories of social comparison and self-presentation, how upward comparisons and internalization of unrealistic beauty standards can contribute to negative self-evaluation, body dissatisfaction, and emotional distress. Using a quantitative approach based on standardized psychological scales and survey data, the study investigates variations across gender and usage patterns. The findings suggest that excessive and appearance-focused social media use is linked to lower self-esteem and greater body image concerns, particularly among young adults. However, the potential for positive outcomes, such as social support and identity expression, when social media is used in balanced and mindful ways. The psychological impact of social media is essential for promoting mental well-being among young adults. It emphasizes the need for digital literacy, critical engagement with online content, and interventions that encourage healthy self-perception in an increasingly digital social environment.
