Abstract

Genetic diversity is a fundamental component of biodiversity and plays a crucial role in the survival, adaptation, and evolution of wild animal populations. It refers to the variation in genetic characteristics among individuals within a species, providing the raw material for natural selection and enabling populations to respond to changing environmental conditions. the significance of genetic diversity and its role in adaptation among wild animal populations. Genetic variation enhances the ability of species to withstand environmental stresses, resist diseases, adapt to climate change, and maintain reproductive fitness. Populations with high genetic diversity are generally more resilient to ecological disturbances, whereas populations with low genetic diversity are more vulnerable to inbreeding, reduced adaptability, and increased risk of extinction. The mechanisms through which genetic diversity arises, including mutation, gene flow, genetic recombination, and natural selection. It also discusses the adaptive responses of wild animals to environmental challenges such as habitat alteration, climate change, predation pressures, and resource availability. Human activities, including habitat fragmentation, overexploitation, and environmental degradation, have significantly affected the genetic structure of many wildlife populations, posing challenges for long-term conservation. Understanding the relationship between genetic diversity and adaptation is essential for effective wildlife management and biodiversity conservation. The importance of preserving genetic variation within populations to ensure species survival, evolutionary potential, and ecosystem stability in a rapidly changing world.
